FAQ. Brushing up on French... I took French in high-school, what can I do to brush up whenever I have time?
• Consider taking private lessons – for example, a mother-daughter formed a reading group I facilitated for a time, the 1-1/2 hours bi-weekly sessions gave them pleasure and acted as a greater means of bonding together.
• Check locally, some bookstores hold French conversation groups.
• The Alliance française (AF) offers several cultural activities for francophiles. Local groups can be found by word of mouth or searching the web.
• Helping your child with his or her French school homework is a great way of pursuing that language interest and feel closer to each other.
• TV-5 offers television programs locally. Check the tv5.org website.
• Check your local listings, some theaters present French movies.
• Enrolling in a college class presents a good opportunity to keep what French you have alive.
• Corresponding with a pen pal can be a good way of improving a language, not to mention creating goodwill and relationships.
• Reading a French book. You pick up the activity whenever you can, and relax at the same time. Obtain from a bookstore, from a public library (French section).
• Renting or buying a French DVD? turn on the French caption of any DVD that offers that feature for another way of keeping the interest alive.
